Discord Quote: How to Quote someone on Discord (3 Ways)

In this post, we will be discussing How to Quote Someone on Discord on mobile and PC. Discord is a free application to talk over voice, video, and text. Discord Users communicate with voice calls, video calls, text messaging, media, and files in private chats or as part of communities called “servers”.

It is available on all major platforms such as Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, iPadOS, Linux, and web browsers. As of July 21, 2019, the service has over 250 million users.

Discord was created for gamers, and it is not used as a professional message app like Slack. That’s why it lacks a few useful features, like quoting someone. However, gamers do require the ability to quote on Discord. And there is no direct way to quote on Discord, but luckily there are a few tweaks by using which you can easily quote a piece of text on Discord.

Lacking the ability to quote directly doesn’t mean Discord doesn’t have other features. Formatting features like bold, italics, underlining, and more are all available, and gamers use them frequently while chatting to express their thoughts and words better.

Well, the most requested feature by the users of Discord was the ability to quote. This feature has been recently introduced in the discord app, and below is a step-by-guide to use the feature, including two other ways to use quotes on Discord.

3 Ways to Quote Someone on Discord in 2021 :

  1. Using Block Quotes  (Recently Introduced)
  2. Use Code Blocks To Quote Someone on Discord
  3. Using a Quote Bot

#Method 1: Quote on Discord Using Block Quotes

This is the newest method that was added to Discord last year. This is also the easiest way to quote a text on Discord. Now there are two ways to use it. Here we are using our mobile phone for the process, but this method works on all devices for which the Discord app is available.

You have to use different block quotes to quote a piece of text. It is pretty simple, though. The syntax to use Block Quotes is ‘>’ or ‘>>>’ symbol followed by a space.

  • Single-line Quote On Discord

If you want to quote a text that finishes in a single line, you will have to use the ‘>’ symbol followed by space and then your text.

Example: If you want to quote a text, let’s say, ‘Hello, How are you,’ then you need to use the following format to quote it:

>(space) Hello, How are you.

Below is the screenshot of the illustration:

  • Multi-line Quote On Discord

If you want to quote multiple lines or a whole paragraph, then you will have to use the‘>>>’ symbol followed by Space and then your text.

Example: If you want to quote an entire paragraph, let’s say, “Hey, I am new to discord, please tell me how to use it and what are its features,” then you will need to follow the following format :

>>>(Space)Hey, I am new to discord, please tell me how to use it and what are its features.

#Method 2: Quote Somebody On Discord Using Code Blocks

This is another method to quote on Discord. It was used before method one was introduced in Discord to use quotes. However, it still works, and you can give it a shot.

Creating a code block is quite easy-peasy; you just need to wrap the text you want to quote inside a single backtick (`) or three backticks (“`).

  • Quote using (`) a single backtick.

If you want to quote a text with only one line, you have to wrap the line inside a single (`) backtick.

Example: If you want to Quote – Hello, How to Quote on Discord, then you need to follow the following format:

`Hello, How to Quote on Discord`

Single line quote discord

  • Quote using (“`) triple backtick

If you want to quote a sentence with multiple lines, then you need to wrap the sentence with three (“`) backticks.

Example: If you want to Quote – “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. My favourite pangram is “Amazingly few discotheques provide jukeboxes.” then you need to follow the following format:

“`The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog”. My favourite pangram is “Amazingly few discotheques provide jukeboxes.` “

#Method 3: Quote on Discord using a Quote Bot

If you have the admin rights or owner of a particular group or chat  then you can add a discord bot to use quotes on Discord.

Below are the two bots you can add to the server:

  1.  u003cbru003eu003cbru003eu003ca href=u0022https://top.gg/bot/609313031301627905u0022u003eQuotinatoru003c/au003e
  2. u003ca href=u0022https://discordbotlist.com/bots/quotes-botu0022u003eQuotes Botu003c/au003e

We have also found two projects on GitHub for quoting on discord;

  • 1. nirewen/Citador – Quote messages on Discord with a simple click.

Citador features:

  • Allows you to see the message that will be quoted
  • Allows you to delete a message you don’t want to quote
  • Allows you to select the message you want to quote
  • Allows you to switch servers or channels while quoting

  • 2. Deivedux/Quote – Quote is a Discord bot that allows users to easily quote messages on discord.

You can quote messages by reacting with 💬 (:speech_balloon:) to them (this feature needs to be enabled first by using the >reactions command).

You can quote messages from any channel by using the >quote command, like this: >quote 507103646995972096 My Optional Reply, where the number is the ID of the message you want to quote.

Note: Citador is a bot that relies on BetterDiscord, which is a modified version of Discord that comes with a lot more features and customization options than the regular discord app.

However, using custom clients can be against Discord’s TOS, so use them at your own risk.

Conclusion : How to Quote on Discord

So, that’s all about how to quote on discord. Most people will prefer to use the first method of Using Block Quotes to add quotes on discord. However, if you are a little techie person you can try method 3 using a bot.

Stay tuned for further updates.
